1968 Firebird Restoration Page

I Installed an aftermarket central door locking system. No real problems there, but be prepared to detach the door to make a neat wire guide. Here are some pictures:

Started working on installing the alarm system. At the moment the dash is a mess – what am I doing to myself – but it’s going to be neat.

Reworked the horn-relay $30 for a new one w/o shipping and import tax? I put in a coil of another relay I had lying around. *honk*

So today the final task is completed for obtaining a Dutch license on the car; the VIN-number had to be etched in the frame. Next wednesday I’ll get the paperwork so the cruising can finally begin… (now some good weather pls…)

Another visit to the RDW… Brakes are ok, but the VIN has to be on the chassis instead of on the plate behind the windshield… I knew that and I’ve shown the code on the firewall – under the cowl – but the first 3 digits are missing (pontiac ID code is left out) so that wont do…. I have to wait until the 9th of next month.

Had to replace a front (drum) brake hose, I could get a replacement hose from Raybestos, part #BH36525 ( – for future reference)

Went to get a dutch Title on the car but there were a few problems which have to be fixed, brakes should align propery, and that can be a bit difficult with the drum brakes on the Bird…

This is far from finished, but it might come in handy if you want to look at the electrical circuits (you need Adobe’s flash player to view) You can use the dropdown to view the wiring parts seperately.

Got a message that the car is loaded on the boat. It would arrive here around the end of June.

So… after the second give-up on my birds I’m trying it one more time…. because my spare time has diminished quite a bit last years I decided not to go for a big project anymore. I found one in the USA which was restored about 6 years ago and actually has the setup I was planning for my own cars. Deluxe interior w. console, TH700R4 trans and headers. A bit of a tickled engine,.. all the big stuff I won’t be able to do myself anymore. Actually the car is on it’s way already. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for the trip….
